Wine tasting in and around Rome

Our current Rome wine tours visit towns in the Castelli Romani region south of Rome, Castelgandolfo, and the crater lake and forests of Albano. We also offer cheese and wine tastings in Rome city centre "enoteche" too.   Each enoteca has a sommelier, typically qualified from the Association of Italian Sommeliers (AIS) based at the Rome Cavalieri Hilton, which overlooks the city from the summit of Monte Mario hill. Many bar and restaurant owners in Rome describe their premises as being an "enoteca", when in fact, where they work cannot even be called "bottiglieria", a term rarely used these days which means "seller of wine" (any wine). An enoteca works directly with local vineyards, and specializes in their produce. The enoteche we include in our wine tours of Rome offer tastings and a thorough explanation of Castelli Romani wine.

Rome in a day or two?

To see the best of Rome in just one day on a private or custom tour, makes for a long day of typically 8 hours duration, during which time you’ll visit the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Imperial Forums, Piazza Venezia, Capitoline Hill and Campidoglio, the Vatican City, Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, St Peter’s Basilica, St Peter’s Square, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, the Pantheon and Centro Storico. Our Rome in a day itinerary is of course provisional. If you are interested in seeing parts of Rome which are not suggested on our Rome in a day tour page, just let us know and we’ll arrange everything for you. You are welcome to pop into our office before your tour begins for a chat, free maps and orientation. We are located right beside the Vatican City walls (Ottaviano or Cipro Metro station on Linea A); Via Sebastiano Veniero 21 - just click the link for exact directions which you can print. Tour Rome over one full day or two full days and see the best of the Eternal City with a private,...

Shore excursions to Rome from Civitavecchia

Shore excursions Rome provided by travel agencies based in the capital have become increasingly popular in the last few years. Bus tours into Rome offered by cruise lines themselves are generally very poor, and have been described as "herding". Not at all pleasant in the suffocating heat of Rome between the months of July and August. It has become all too common for us to hear tales of woe from customers who are visiting Rome for the second time to take private tours of the Vatican and other sites of historical and archaeological significance in and around the city, having missed most of them first time around on a bus tour arranged by their cruise line or tour operator back home. Our shore excursions into Rome from Civitavecchia are 100% flexible, you can choose exactly where you want to go in Rome or anywhere else, and dictate exactly how long you want to spend there. Cruise lines advise all passengers to be back on board at least 90 minutes before embarkation. Cruise...
